FABRIC, FABRIC & MORE FABRIC

Fabric is my favorite thing about Fashion Designing. It's the first thing you see when it comes to garments and there is an endless amount of options.

Aesthetically appeasing: Fabrics have different colors, shades, textures, patterns, feel and finishes which impact the overall look and feel of any design. Choosing a fabric can make or break a design, making it an essential part of the design process. Have you ever seen a dress that you liked and thought if only this was in a different material? Picking a fabric to tailor everyone is impossible, which leaves us settling for for designs that are mediocre.

Comfort or Style: The type of fabric you choose affects whether you'll be comfortable or not. Fabrics with breathability wont have you sweating. Fabrics with 4 way stretch wont have you busting out the seams or make you feel uncomfortable after dinner. Fabrics with durability will allow you to wear certain garments longer.

Drape and Structure: Fabrics control how a design hangs or drapes. This influences the silhouette and movement of a design. Certain fabrics give a design certain structure and contribute to the desired shape and form of a design.

Fabrics are important in designing aesthetically, for comfort, functionality, drape and structure. Considering the right fabric is essential in achieving the desired overall look and feel of a design.
